What you will learn

When you rent a home, keep your tenancy agreement and messages about the home. If something needs repairing, tell your landlord clearly and keep a record of the conversation. For a question about your rights or rent, use an independent advice service. The rules depend on the type of home and agreement, so check current official information for your situation.

Contents

Finding and renting a home, arranging utilities, managing bills and sorting waste.

Read in Dutch

This story is a separate reading exercise. The chapters above use different examples.

Daniel rents an apartment. On Monday, he sees water under the sink. He takes a photo and sends a message to the landlord. The landlord replies: ‘A repair technician will come tomorrow.’ Daniel stays home on Tuesday from nine to eleven. He keeps the messages. Daniel also has a question about his tenancy agreement. He first reads the agreement and then looks for independent advice in his municipality.

The first two original questions check the story; the third asks about everyday life using an official source. These are not official KNM questions or complete exam preparation, and they do not predict your result.
