On September 5, 1898, many people came to Amsterdam. People wanted to see Queen Wilhelmina. Wilhelmina was 18 years old at the time and she became the new queen of the Netherlands.

The city was filled with orange colors, because that is the color of the royal house. Everyone celebrated. A man, Hobbe Smith, made a painting of this day.
