Announced XR demonstration on April 25 cannot take place on ring road A12

Extinction Rebellion wanted to demonstrate on April 25, 2026, on ring road A12 near Utrecht. The mayor has decided together with the police and the Public Prosecution Service that this is not allowed. A blockade of the highway is too dangerous for safety.

The demonstrators have been given another location to demonstrate. Nevertheless, the municipality thinks that traffic in Utrecht and the surrounding villages will be greatly affected by the demonstration. Therefore, the municipality says that motorists are better off not traveling by car on April 25, unless it is really necessary.
