Overpowered, captured, and sold: the fate of unfortunate Amsterdam sailors

For sailors from Amsterdam, sailing on the Mediterranean Sea was dangerous. Often, pirates were lurking. These pirates sometimes approached closely with their ship and attacked the Amsterdam vessels.

Sometimes sailors were captured. Afterwards, the pirates sold them as slaves. Many families in Amsterdam worried when their relatives went sailing.
