Retail trade generates almost 3 percent more turnover in July
In July, the retail trade earned almost 3 percent more money than in July last year. This is according to the Central Bureau of Statistics. Stores also sold more products.
All types of stores recorded higher turnover. Stores that do not sell food or drinks (non-food) performed the best. They earned 3.6 percent more than last year.
Pharmacies did particularly well. There, turnover was 12.5 percent higher. Stores with electronics and stores with leisure goods also sold significantly more.
The food sector, such as supermarkets and specialty stores that sell food, earned 1.5 percent more together. Supermarkets sold 1.6 percent more and specialty stores 0.7 percent more than last year. Online stores also performed well.
In July, online turnover was almost 4 percent higher than last year. Stores that sell both through physical shops and the internet earned 4.5 percent more online than last year. Webshops that sell only online recorded 3.4 percent more turnover.
Clothing stores had the largest increase in online sales. They grew by 5.6 percent. Electronics were also sold much more online (5.4 percent more).
Other products in the non-food sector were also increasingly purchased online, but the growth there was somewhat smaller.
