On Sunday evening, multiple accidents occurred on the A7 in East Groningen due to slipperiness on the road. Because of these accidents, the A7 was closed for some time in both directions. According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), a yellow warning applies in the northern and northeastern parts of the country due to the chance of local slipperiness caused by freezing rain.

According to the weather service, the slipperiness is treacherous because freezing rain is hard to see. Several incidents have been reported on the A7 between Groningen and Scheemda, including a car that slid off the road between Zuidbroek and Scheemda and ended up in a ditch. In Sappemeer, four cars collided with each other, and near Kolham, three cars were involved in an accident; a man and a woman were checked by ambulance personnel as a precaution.

Emergency services were on the scene, and a part of the A7 remained closed due to the accidents. Sources: NOS, NU.nl (2 articles)
