On Friday evening there was severe weather and a lot of damage. According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), there were over 188,000 lightning strikes. In Drenthe, a 25-year-old woman died, and in Groningen 350 trees fell over.

Oranje won 5-1 against Sweden at the World Cup in Houston. Brian Brobbey and Cody Gakpo both scored twice. Crysencio Summerville scored the other goal, but the defense remains vulnerable.

In Tilburg, the police freed a dog from a hot car after more than an hour. In Krimpen aan den IJssel, people took a two-year-old child out of a hot car. Afterwards, someone reported this to the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Hotline (Veilig Thuis).

In Houston, about 15,000 supporters participated in the Oranje march to the stadium. The four-kilometer march started at 8:45 a.m. local time. Around 9:00 a.m., it was already 30 degrees Celsius, and the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) issued a heat warning.

After the victory over Sweden, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and Princess Ariane came into the dressing room. They celebrated there with the Dutch players. Afterwards, they also visited Curaçao, which played against Ecuador on Saturday.
