DUO stands for Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs. This organisation provides information about student finance and certain allowances for pupils and students. Whether you are entitled to receive money depends on your age, course, nationality or residency status, and personal circumstances. Read the specific conditions for the arrangement that applies to you; a classmate may have different entitlements.
Student finance (studiefinanciering) can consist of different parts. Some parts, under certain conditions, are grants that do not need to be paid back, while others are loans that you must repay. Even payments that may later turn into grants can have conditions, for example gaining a diploma. Always ask DUO for detailed information about your course and application. The word 'financiering' (financing or funding) alone does not tell you whether the money is a grant or a loan.
Start your research in good time. Check the official DUO website for the right application procedure, what information you need to provide, and from when you can receive money. Make a note of deadlines, log in securely, and check the decision after applying. If your course or situation changes, find out whether you have to notify DUO. Keep all correspondence from DUO so you can check later how a payment was calculated.
Make a simple budget for study, travel, books, and living costs. Compare these expenses to your income, possible help, and any loan you might need. Taking out a loan can make studying possible, but creates a future debt that you will have to repay. If you do not understand the rules, ask DUO for clarification before making your decision. Studiekosten en DUO
DUO is de Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs. Deze organisatie geeft informatie over studiefinanciering en bepaalde tegemoetkomingen voor scholieren en studenten. Of je recht hebt op geld, hangt onder meer af van je leeftijd, opleiding, nationaliteit of verblijfsrecht en persoonlijke situatie. Lees de voorwaarden voor de regeling die bij jou past; een klasgenoot kan andere rechten hebben.
Studiefinanciering kan uit verschillende onderdelen bestaan. Sommige bedragen zijn onder voorwaarden een gift en andere zijn een lening die je moet terugbetalen. Ook bij een bedrag dat later een gift kan worden, kunnen eisen gelden, bijvoorbeeld over een diploma. Vraag bij DUO precies wat voor jouw opleiding en aanvraag geldt. Het woord ‘financiering’ zegt op zichzelf niet of geld gratis is.
Begin op tijd met zoeken. Bekijk op de officiële DUO-website welke aanvraag je moet doen, welke gegevens nodig zijn en vanaf wanneer je geld kunt krijgen. Noteer termijnen, log veilig in en controleer na de aanvraag het besluit. Verandert je opleiding of situatie, zoek uit of je dat moet melden. Bewaar berichten van DUO, zodat je later kunt zien waarop een betaling is gebaseerd.
