National Government, Municipality of Utrecht, and Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden take important step towards transfer of Merwedekanaal (Merwede Canal)

The national government, the municipality of Utrecht, and Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden are working together. They want to transfer the Merwedekanaal (Merwede Canal) in Utrecht. This means that they want to arrange the ownership and management of the canal and the surrounding areas.

This also includes roads, quays, and locations for houseboats. Through this cooperation, it becomes clearer who is responsible for the maintenance and use of the canal. The proposal was sent today to the municipal council of Utrecht and the board of the water authority (waterschap).
