New rules for freight traffic in city center from May 1, 2026

English · translation

From May 1, 2026, the rules for trucks and delivery vans in the city center of Utrecht will change. The pedestrian area will have new times during which these vehicles are allowed to drive. The rules about the weight of the vehicles are changing.

Previously, it was per axle, but now they look at the total weight of the vehicle. This makes the rules clearer and easier to enforce. These changes are meant to protect the old center of Utrecht.

This makes it more beautiful and safe for pedestrians and cyclists. It must also ensure that freight traffic can operate better and more sustainably in the city. In the first three months, until August 1, people who do not follow the rules will receive a warning.

They will not yet receive a fine.
