Municipality and Hogeschool Utrecht also offer free eye exams and children's glasses in 2026
Hogeschool Utrecht and the municipality of Utrecht will continue to collaborate in 2026. They offer children from families with a U-pass a free eye exam. If necessary, they also receive free glasses.
In the Netherlands, one in five children under the age of 18 needs glasses. That amounts to approximately 634,000 children. Glasses for children are often not reimbursed.
Many families are therefore unable to buy glasses. Research shows that free children's glasses help give children equal opportunities. It is also good for society and costs less money in the long term.
