Heritage of the Week | Basement Dwelling from the Eighteenth Century

Archaeologists have found remains of an old basement dwelling in a building on Noordermarkt in Amsterdam. This dwelling dates from the eighteenth century. Under this basement dwelling, the archaeologists also found a floor from the seventeenth century.

The discovery shows that people used to live in this place and that the houses here are very old. The researchers find it remarkable that so much of the basement and the old floor has been preserved.
