Commemoration of the February Strike: ‘Be Solidary with the Severely Affected Jewish People’

On Wednesday, February 25, there is a special day in the Netherlands. We then commemorate the February Strike of 1941. During this strike, many people in Amsterdam and the surrounding areas did not go to work.

They were angry because Jewish people were being treated badly by the German occupiers. The strike was an action against the Germans in the Second World War. Many people wanted to show that they were in solidarity with the Jewish people.

On this day, flowers are laid at monuments. People remember the courage of the strikers. Leaders of the city and relatives are also present.

With the commemoration, we do not want to forget what happened back then.
