Commemoration of the February Strike: ‘Be Solidary with the Severely Affected Jewish People’
Op woensdag 25 februari is er een speciale dag in Nederland.
On Wednesday, February 25, there is a special day in the Netherlands.
We herdenken dan de Februaristaking van 1941.
We then commemorate the February Strike of 1941.
Tijdens deze staking gingen veel mensen in Amsterdam en omstreken niet werken.
During this strike, many people in Amsterdam and the surrounding areas did not go to work.
Ze waren boos, omdat Joodse mensen slecht werden behandeld door de Duitse bezetters.
They were angry because Jewish people were being treated badly by the German occupiers.
De staking was een actie tegen de Duitsers in de Tweede Wereldoorlog.

Veel mensen wilden zo laten zien dat ze solidair waren met het Joodse volk.

Op deze dag liggen er bloemen bij monumenten.
On this day, flowers are laid at monuments.
Mensen denken terug aan de moed van de stakers.
People remember the courage of the strikers.
Leiders van de stad en nabestaanden zijn er ook bij.
Leaders of the city and relatives are also present.
Met de herdenking willen we niet vergeten wat er toen is gebeurd.
