Special Archaeological Discoveries under Café Le Journal at Neude

Since January 2026, there have been major renovations at Café Le Journal at Neude. Workers are creating new spaces underground. During these works, archaeologists are paying close attention.

They work at the Heritage department of the municipality of Utrecht. They want to know everything about the history of this place. The archaeologists have found many special things.

For example, they found old cellars and foundations of houses from the Middle Ages. They also found a statue made of natural stone. This statue had been hidden under the café for a long time.
