5 Tips to Help Amsterdam Birds Through the Breeding Season

The breeding season for birds in Amsterdam is about to begin. Many birds are now looking for a place to breed and raise their young. Urban ecologist Els Corporaal gives five tips to help the birds in the city.

Firstly, you can hang birdhouses in your garden, balcony, or on the facade. This way, birds can easily find a place to breed. Choose a quiet place without much noise.

Secondly, you can put plants and shrubs in your garden or on your balcony. Birds find food there and can hide from danger. Thirdly, it is good to place water in a bowl or a pond.

This way, birds can drink and wash themselves. Fourthly, you can scatter bird food, especially when there is little natural food. Do not use salty food then.

Fifthly, you should keep cats indoors or put a bell on their collar so that birds are safe. If everyone follows these tips, birds will have a better chance to safely make a nest and raise their young.
