Progress and Concerns in Amsterdam Education

Schools in Amsterdam have improved somewhat. Students are learning to read and do math well. Some schools still have problems, however.

There is also a large shortage of teachers. As a result, classes sometimes have to go several days without a permanent teacher. This is difficult for the children.

The municipality is working hard to find more teachers. Amsterdam is trying to make education good for everyone. Nevertheless, there are concerns about having enough teachers and about some schools where problems still exist.
