These men were prosecuted because they had feelings for the same sex

In the eighteenth century, people sometimes thought it was wrong when men were attracted to men. In Amsterdam and other places, hundreds of men therefore got into trouble. They were arrested by the police.

Sometimes these men had a trial in court. Many of them were then convicted. Some men even received the death penalty.

This happened only because they were in love with people of the same sex.
