Only one Dutchman did not want to surrender New Amsterdam to the English (but he lost out in the end)

In 1664, four English warships arrive in the harbor of New Amsterdam (a Dutch settlement in present-day New York City). The English want the Dutch to hand the city over to them. They say that the Dutch must surrender.

There is only one Dutchman who does not want to hand the city over to the English. But he cannot win. Ultimately, the English take over New Amsterdam.
