Four Short News Items (Tuesday, March 31)

The police arrested an escaped forensic psychiatric patient on Monday evening in Leeuwarden. The 41-year-old man escaped Monday morning in Groningen, outside the Mesdag Clinic. A special team stopped him on the street; he was placed under forensic psychiatric care in 2011 after sex offenses.

The cabinet wants to give 19 million euros again this year to UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency). Minister Sjoerdsma wrote this to the House of Representatives because Gaza needs aid. Last week the House still opted for less money, and SGP and JA21 are asking for an explanation.

On Ameland, they are recounting all the votes from the municipal elections. In the town hall in Ballum, there were 354 voting passes, but later there were 355 votes. NOS (Dutch Broadcast Foundation) says that proxy votes often occur, and canvassing remains a risk.

Céline Dion is going to give ten concerts in Paris, she says on Instagram. The performances will be from September 12 to October 14 at La Défense Arena. She feels well and is singing again after the illness stiff person syndrome.
