New Law, Terrorism Cases, and Criminal Cases (Wednesday, April 1)

Israel passed a law concerning the death penalty for terrorist murder. There were 62 votes in favor and 48 against. Critics say that Palestinians in particular are affected, and there were protests in Gaza and in the West Bank.

The law also states that a death sentence must be carried out within ninety days. The United Nations, the European Union, and the Netherlands have expressed concerns about the law.

The court in Leeuwarden sentenced a minor boy from Friesland. He was preparing attacks on the Flemish Parliament and Deelen Air Base. He received three months of conditional juvenile detention, two years of probation, and treatment at the National Support Center for Extremism.

A 21-year-old man from Eindhoven will also remain in custody for another fourteen days. In Nieuw-Vennep, the police arrested a 36-year-old man. He is suspected of the death of a 59-year-old woman found near the station.

The police are also investigating a possible connection with a deceased woman in Amsterdam. According to ABN AMRO (a Dutch bank), both women worked at the bank. Furthermore, rapper Kempi received seven months in prison, and an Amsterdam resident was sentenced to ten months for threats.
