Climate March, Ajax and Higher Prices (Sunday, September 13)

Tens of thousands of people took part in a climate march in Amsterdam on Saturday. The march went from Dam Square to Museumplein. The organizers put the number of participants at more than 40,000; they were calling for clean energy and less reliance on fossil fuels.

Ajax won 5–1 away to Fortuna Sittard on Saturday. Thilo Kehrer scored on his starting debut and also provided an assist. Julian Brandt, Davy Klaassen, Kasper Dolberg and Youri Baas also scored.

Dario Amodei, head of Anthropic (an artificial intelligence company), wants artificial intelligence companies to work more slowly. Sam Altman of OpenAI (an artificial intelligence research company) also called for a slowdown this week. Reuters reports that Nvidia wants to invest in Anthropic’s initial public offering.

Fuel prices rose again in the Netherlands on Saturday. According to UnitedConsumers (a Dutch consumer organization), diesel costs an average of 2.725 euros per liter. That is almost 2 cents more than on Friday, while petrol costs 2.702 euros.

Income tax for working people will rise by approximately 4 billion euros next year. Insiders confirmed this to ANP (the Dutch national news agency), following a report by RTL Nieuws (a Dutch news broadcaster). In the long term, that will rise to 8 billion euros, and the arrangements for Box 3 are not yet complete.
