Safe contact with the government
Much contact with the government is digital. On official websites you can search for information, fill in a form or make an appointment. Always check that you are using the correct organisation and website.
Your citizen service number, the BSN, is a personal number used for contact with the government and healthcare, among others. DigiD is a way to identify yourself online. Keep your DigiD password and codes private and do not send them to anyone else by message.
A letter or online request can have a deadline. Therefore, read in time what you need to do. If you cannot manage contact digitally, ask the organisation or a reliable information point, for example in a library, for help. You can get help without sharing your secret code.
Suppose you want to know when you need to report a change of address. First, choose a reliable source, such as the official website of your municipality or central government (Rijksoverheid). Check the web address and who provides the information.
Then search that website for “verhuizing doorgeven” (reporting a move), read the procedure and deadline, and note down what steps you need to take. Do not just open a link from an unknown message.

Veilig contact met de overheid
Veel contact met de overheid gaat digitaal. Op officiële websites kun je informatie zoeken, een formulier invullen of een afspraak maken. Controleer altijd of je de juiste organisatie en website gebruikt.
Je burgerservicenummer, het BSN, is een persoonlijk nummer voor contact met onder meer de overheid en zorg. DigiD is een manier om je online te identificeren. Houd je DigiD-wachtwoord en codes privé en stuur ze niet via een bericht naar iemand anders.
Een brief of online vraag kan een termijn hebben. Lees daarom op tijd wat je moet doen. Lukt digitaal contact niet, vraag hulp bij de organisatie of een betrouwbaar informatiepunt, bijvoorbeeld in een bibliotheek. Je kunt hulp krijgen zonder je geheime code te delen.

Welke organisatie kan helpen?
Niet elke vraag hoort bij dezelfde organisatie. Voor geldzaken kun je bijvoorbeeld informatie zoeken bij Nibud of schuldhulpverlening. Een voedselbank kan onder voorwaarden tijdelijk voedselhulp bieden. Voor gezondheid in de regio is de GGD een mogelijke bron.
Bij een juridische vraag kan het Juridisch Loket helpen. Bij zorgen over thuis, opvoeding of meedoen kunnen maatschappelijk werk, gemeente en jeugdhulp een rol hebben. De hulp verschilt per plaats en persoonlijke situatie.
