Utrecht's approach to early school leavers saves society 7.9 million euros
In Utrecht, the municipality helps young people who leave school without a diploma or job. They call this the Focus Approach. Since 2016, municipality employees have been going to these young people.
They help them return to school or find work. The municipality does not only focus on school and work. They also assist with other problems, such as debts, housing, health, and difficult emotions.
Research shows that this help works well. More young people return to school (+75%) and more young people have jobs (+7.69%). The Focus Approach saves society a lot of money, approximately 7.9 million euros.
