Sparta Rotterdam has won five Eredivisie matches in a row for the first time in 53 years. The team of coach Maurice Steijn defeated FC Groningen 2-0 at Het Kasteel. Both goals were scored by Shunsuke Mito.

In addition, FC Groningen had two goals disallowed in the same match. Because of this defeat, FC Groningen drops to eighth place in the Eredivisie, while Sparta is currently in fifth place. The last time Sparta recorded such a winning streak was in the 1972/1973 season.
