1. 4.1Access primary care and other care that needs no referral.

   1. 4.1.1

      NederlandsDe huisarts en praktijkondersteuner zijn vaak het eerste contact voor lichamelijke of psychische vragen. Zoek een praktijk en maak een afspraak; als taal een probleem is, vraag naar een tolk. Gesprekken met zorgverleners vallen onder medisch beroepsgeheim.

      EnglishA general practitioner (huisarts) and a support professional at the practice (praktijkondersteuner) are often the first people to contact about physical or mental health. Find a practice and make an appointment; if language is a barrier, ask about an interpreter. Conversations with healthcare professionals are covered by medical confidentiality.

   2. 4.1.2

      NederlandsBij de apotheek kun je medicijnen op recept ophalen en advies krijgen over het gebruik. Sommige middelen zijn ook zonder recept verkrijgbaar, bijvoorbeeld bij een drogist.

      EnglishYou can collect prescription medicines at a pharmacy and get advice on how to use them. Some products are also available without a prescription, for example at a drugstore.

   3. 4.1.3

      NederlandsJe kunt zelf een tandarts kiezen. Regelmatige controle bij een tandarts of mondhygiënist is gebruikelijk; zoek een praktijk die patiënten aanneemt.

      EnglishYou can choose your own dentist. Regular check-ups with a dentist or dental hygienist are common; look for a practice that is accepting patients.

   4. 4.1.4

      NederlandsRond zwangerschap en geboorte kun je zorg krijgen van onder meer een verloskundige en kraamzorg. Een consultatiebureau volgt de ontwikkeling van jonge kinderen en geeft ouders advies.

      EnglishDuring pregnancy and after birth, care may come from a midwife and maternity care service, among others. A child health clinic (consultatiebureau) follows young children's development and advises parents.

2. 4.2Understand when care requires a referral or assessment.

   1. 4.2.1

      NederlandsVoor sommige lichamelijke of psychische problemen verwijst de huisarts door naar een specialist of andere hulpverlener. Vraag welke verwijzing of beoordeling nodig is voor jouw situatie.

      EnglishFor some physical or mental health problems, a GP refers you to a specialist or another care professional. Ask what referral or assessment is needed in your situation.

3. 4.3Know how to seek help in an urgent medical situation.

   1. 4.3.1

      NederlandsDe huisartsenpost helpt met medische spoed als de eigen huisarts dicht is, vooral 's avonds, 's nachts en in het weekend. Zoek op hoe je de post in jouw regio eerst moet bereiken.

      EnglishThe out-of-hours GP service (huisartsenpost) helps with urgent medical needs when your own GP is closed, especially in the evening, at night and on weekends. Find out how to contact the service in your area first.

   2. 4.3.2

      NederlandsIs er direct levensgevaar, bel dan meteen 112. Vertel de meldkamer waar je bent en wat er is gebeurd.

      EnglishIf someone is in immediate danger of dying, call 112 at once. Tell the emergency operator where you are and what happened.

4. 4.4Handle health insurance, care costs and administration.

   1. 4.4.1

      NederlandsEen basiszorgverzekering is in beginsel verplicht; je kunt een verzekeraar kiezen en jaarlijks wisselen. Het basispakket bevat onder meer huisartsenzorg, wijkverpleging, geboortezorg, ouderenzorg en geestelijke gezondheidszorg. Let op eigen risico en eigen bijdrage: een huisartsbezoek valt niet onder het eigen risico, en spreidbetaling kan mogelijk zijn. Tandartszorg en fysiotherapie voor kinderen tot achttien jaar vallen onder voorwaarden in het basispakket; volwassenen kunnen voor zulke zorg aanvullende dekking nodig hebben.

      EnglishBasic health insurance is generally required; you can choose an insurer and switch once a year. The basic package includes, among other things, GP care, district nursing, maternity care, care for older people and mental healthcare. Check the deductible (eigen risico) and any co-payment (eigen bijdrage): a GP visit does not count towards the deductible, and paying the deductible in instalments may be possible. Dental care and physiotherapy for children under 18 are covered under conditions by the basic package; adults may need extra cover for this care.

   2. 4.4.2

      NederlandsAls je zorgkosten zelf hebt betaald, controleer dan bij je verzekeraar of en hoe je die kosten volgens de geldende procedure kunt declareren.

      EnglishIf you have paid healthcare costs yourself, check with your insurer whether and how you can claim them under its current procedure.

   3. 4.4.3

      NederlandsVeel zaken rond zorg, zoals afspraken, berichten en declaraties, kun je digitaal regelen. Vraag hulp als een online stap niet lukt.

      EnglishMany healthcare tasks, such as arranging appointments, reading messages and submitting claims, can be done online. Ask for help if an online step does not work.

   4. 4.4.4

      NederlandsVoor veel aanvragen en declaraties rond zorg gebruik je DigiD. Houd je inloggegevens privé en vraag bij een betrouwbare hulpdienst ondersteuning bij het invullen.

      EnglishYou use DigiD for many healthcare applications and claims. Keep your login details private and ask a trusted support service for help completing a form.

5. 4.5Find local wellbeing and prevention services.

   1. 4.5.1

      NederlandsBij de gemeente of een wijkteam kun je vragen naar hulp bij schulden, armoede, eenzaamheid of deelname aan de buurt. Er zijn ook voorzieningen voor hulp thuis bij ouderdom, ziekte of een beperking.

      EnglishYou can ask the municipality or a neighbourhood support team about help with debts, poverty, loneliness or taking part in local life. Support at home may also be available for older people, people who are ill or people with a disability.
